5 Knitting patterns inspired by Scandinavian knitting traditions

Have you ever had a look into an old knitting magazine, received an old pair of mittens or read an old knitting book? Then you have probably encountered the old knitting motifs like "Selburose" or also called "Åttebladsrose" (eng: 8 leafed rose). These are just some of the traditional motivs amongst many simplistic motifs.

I have collected 5 knitting patterns inspired by these old motifs but in a new and modern look.

1. Winter Sky Headband

The Winter Sky Headband is a mix between stranded knitting with two colors and some lace work. The main motif in the headband is the "Åttebladsrose"/"Selburose". I would say that you could be an "Adventurous Beginner" to master this kind of knitting project. The headband is perfect for those of you who like to tie up their hair, but still want to keep the ears warm.

2. Winter Forest Blanket

The Winter Forest Blanket is a baby blanket in the perfect size for the baby stroller. The blanket is knitted with motifs at the front and back and is incredible warm. The motifs on the blanket is collected from old Norwegian tapestries combined with new motifs of leafes, houses and animals and more.

3. Tide Sweater - Baby

The Tide Sweater for baby is an exciting pattern in a combination of merino wool and cotton, which makes the sweater easy to clean and won´t irritate the sensitive skin of the baby. The name of the Sweater "Tide Sweater" derives from the fact that the pattern itself is changing depending on the size knitted, not too much, but enough to keep things interesting if you are knitting a larger sweater.

4. Bergtopp Beanie

The name Bergtopp is a Norwegian word for the top of the mountain, and is based on traditional old Norwegian beanies The Beanie is soft, warm and comfortable, worked with thin non-superwash merino wool. The pattern lets you choose between a straight edge on the brim, or a piqot edging - both alternatives is shown in the picture. The Beanie itself is inspired by an old Beanie my grandmother made for my older sister when we where kids.

5. Tide Sweater - Adult

The Tide Sweater in adult size has a lot of common with the one for babies, but the biggest difference is that it has a neat raglan decrease. The sweater is incredibly warm, as it is worked constantly with two colors. I made two of these for my husband, but I am always stealing his sweater, because I just love the feel and fit of this sweater.
